Daily Reflections for this Month - video

Question of the Week
Reflection:  This week we celebrate Christ the King. However, John's gospel features the somber passion exchange when Pilate asks Jesus if he is The King of the Jews. Jesus explains that His kingdom is not of this world and this is the reason that nobody is fighting to save him from his own people. This exchange prompts us to think about the nature of the kingdom of which Jesus speaks.

Reflective Question:  How does the Kingdom of God differ from earthly kingdoms?

Faith Response:  In my own way, I will spread the Kingdom of God.

From our Pastor
Father Steve

Dec 2: On this last Sunday of the Church year, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. We honor and proclaim Christ as King of Kings, Lord of Lords. In the First Reading today from Daniel we hear that "all peoples, nations and languages serve him." Yet Jesus is a very different kind of King. He has no army, no navy, and is not seeking power over others. Rather, he lays down his life for us as we hear in the Second Reading from Revelation: "Jesus Christ is the faithful witness...who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood." In the Gospel Jesus says to Pilate: "My Kingdom does not belong to this world." Throughout the Gospels Jesus preaches the coming of the Kingdom of God, which is described in the Preface of this Sunday's Eucharist as "an eternal and universal kingdom, a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace." Living these values, having them enshrined in our hearts and bringing them to our world is the best way we can follow Christ the King!

* Have you ever thought about being a Catholic? Do you know someone who is interested in learning about the Catholic faith? Are you a Catholic who has not received Confirmation or First Holy Communion? There is still time to join Father Steve and the Parish RCIA team on Tuesday nights in the Spiritual Library in the School from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Any questions? Call Father Steve at the Rectory (969-6868).

* Father Steve, our Pastor, may be away this week from Monday to Friday, for the annual priests' retreat for priests of the Archdiocese.

Prayer to the Blessed Mother of Mount Carmel

"Oh most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven,
Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity.
Oh Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother.
Oh Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in necessity (make request).
There are none that can withstand your power.
Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us
who have recourse to thee (say three times).
Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands (say three times). Amen."
