From our Pastor
Father Steve

Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension ends the frequent appearances of Jesus to the First Christians after Easter and celebrates his glory and exaltation in God's presence. He is victorious over sin and death. In today's Second Reading St. Paul tells us of the cosmic dimensions of Christ's victory by telling us that the fullness of Christ fills the universe. In some way, Christ's glory and light and love fills all of us and "all things in every way." In Christ we are victorious. He gives a mission to his disciples (and us): "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature" - an impossible task for us by ourselves! But Jesus promises in the First Reading that the Holy Spirit he sends upon us will empower us to be his "witnesses" even to the ends of the earth. Each day this week let us pray again and again for a new coming of the Holy Spirit upon all as we move towards the Feast of Pentecost next Sunday.

* The 10 AM Mass this Sunday is a Family Mass celebrated with the help of the children from our Parish School.

* We ask your prayers for the coming of the Holy Spirit upon 12 high school Confirmation Candidates and nine adult Candidates from our Tuesday RCIA program. They will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation next Sunday, May 27 at the 12 noon Mass with Bishop Thomas Curry, Regional Bishop for the Santa Barbara Region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. There will be a rehearsal for all the Candidates and their Sponsors in Church on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. May the Holy Spirit come upon all with the fullness of the gifts of Wisdom and Understanding, Right Judgment and Courage, Knowledge and Love, and Reverence in God's Service.

* RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is open to all enquirers interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. Please call Father Steve at the Rectory (969-6868) for more information.
